The events we've seen on the group today have not been constructive;
driving people away from the group never, NEVER is. I agree that the best
way to improve something is to keep at it; this attitude is very much in
keeping with the spirit that has made Linux was it is today (perhaps for
better or for worse).
What started as a civil thread discussing contentious issues ha some-
how turned sour. Chris assures me that he has seen nothing offensive from
any KLUG officer, and that he was having a fairly good time of it until
flamed today by someone who is NOT an officer. I decided, earlier and
independently, to make continued reception and reading of this material
(specifically, my answers) optional, so that the list would not be
continued to get saturated by the discssion. At the same time, I offered
to form a mailing list to continue this discussion, so everyone could
continue to particpate in the primary mailing list could do so without
being deluged with one thread, while those who wished to persue this
discussion (hopefully on the intelligent level originally envisioned)
could do so without disturbing others.
We want this mailing list to be kept a safe place to share opinions and
ideas, and maintain our focus on those ideas, not use them as jumping off
points for personal attacks, unfounded judgements, or assaults on each
others' integrity.
