Re: Bruce & Linux Server Adventure
... TNT2 has been supported longer... and i bleive has better support in
X..... however...on the 3d side of things.... 3dfx has had their Glide api
available for quitesomtime... whereas nvidia has only had 3d support for the
tnt/tnt2 for about 2 months.... ... the Xserver for tnt/tnt2 never crashes
(at least not on my tnt) and... well last i looked the official V3 server
was in either alpha or beta... both Xserver (if gotten from the chipset
manu.) have glX support..... but 3d support at the console is more mature on
the v3..... in windows a V3-3000 and a TNT2 ultra are pretty close under
openGL.... depended on the exact situation it can go either way.....
in openGL and d3d (if you care) they graphics quality of a tnt2 seems a
little higher than that of a v3.... however.... if a game supports GLIDE...
(3dfx's api) there usually is no comparison in performance. or quality (d3d
on anything is ugly compared to glide on a 3dfx... ) to run openGL on a v3
the drivers wrap it into glide... whereas there is (i believe) native
support in the tnt/tnt2.......
I'm happy with my TNT.... the TNT2 is faster than it... my dad has a
voodoo3-2000.... maybe sometime i should install linux on his machine.... or
maybe just put the v3 in my machine... and do some comparisons....
Jeff...
