X problem

so anyhow i don't know if you've read that thread where i had to delete some
bloated file and reconfigure X but that's where i'm at... this is what i
did: "Xconfigurator" opens up that nice tab through display with choices and
everything... i'm going through... it's being cool, probes the hardware,
comes up and says "PCI Entry: ATI | 3D Rage Pro AGP 1X/2X" and "XServer:
Mach64" next i go to the choose monitor part and of course mine isn't there,
but that's okay cause i still got the book for it... i picked out some nice
pretty scanning frequencies that "according to my documentation" will work
nicely... so it does another probe thing to make sure that all will be well
and decide upon the default screen stuff (bit depth, size, etc...) and i'm
thinking "great this is gonna work, i'm gonna be so very very happy" and it
wants to make sure that X is configured properly... so it boots X up with
one of those "if you can read this click here" type windows... well i go to
click there and (i'm sure you already know) my mouse cursor flies to the
upper right corner of the screen... the window counts down and i return to
Xconfigurator... could it be that maybe my mouse isn't configured correctly?
i have an M$ Wheel Mouse with a Gateway CowBox painted on it... that should
be just like a generic three-button PS/2 right? (the wheel clicks) i'm just
at a loss of ideas here...

thank you for reading this message, and double thank you if you an idea for
how i can remedy this...
