pinging through IPMASQ

I setup Demand dialing, and IP Masq. as instructed in John's presentation on the KLUG web server.  Demand dialing works like a champ, as does squid, but if I pull up a dos prompt in windoze and type ping klug.arminl.com, ping hangs until I ctrl-c it.  I have windoze set to look for my ISP's name servers, and have my gateway (192.168.0.1) set as it's internet gateway.

I've tried the same thing in linux on the same box as win98 (they are both configured as 192.168.0.2) but it doesn't work there either.  Pinging works fine from the gateway box, but for some reason they are not being sent out if sent from another box on the network.  I'm sure this is something simple but I'm stumped.
