Is ping the only thing that is not working? or are you able to
retrieve web pages and such? The rc scripts are supposed to check to
see if you want ipforwarding working. Keep in mind, just pulling web
pages, if you are using squid as a proxy server, may not be a good
indicator unless you choose 'direct connection to the internet' in
your browser settings.
There is a little flag under the proc networking stuff that needs to
be set to a '1' to enable forwarding once you have properly
configured the kernel/modules to include masquerading. I forget the
path but can check it when I get home. It will usually work by
default once you fire it up on most distributions, but I did learn
the hard way that when I installed the solucorp version of linuxconf,
it altered the rc.d scripts so that it was having a hard time setting
that flag to '1 on boot-up.
