Re: [MLUG-Members] Printer setup in Samba

Hi Tom,
I don't see anything wrong with what you have in <smb.conf>,
so we need to look at where print information stops on its' way to
the printer.
You don't say anything about installing the printer on the 98 box but
I assume you did and when you push the print test page button, all
goes as normal but no test page prints. Right?
Does any thing show up in /var/spool/samba/  ?

I fired up my 486-66 nt4 test box to give it a try and after setting encrypt
passwords, printer installation and printing worked fine.

I setup a HP Deskjet 540 (B/W only) printer as a local printer on RH6.0. No
real problem there. I am trying to share the HP540 on the network via
Samba. I want Samba to automatically add the printer service. My Win98
clients see \\Server\lp (the linux box & printer name) in the Explorer but
can't produce print output. I can print fine locally from Linux printool
tests and gEdit. The DJ540 is a Postscript printer, not a dreaded
Win-printer. I tried setting up the printer specifically in Samba, but that
didn't help.

Here are the setups in <smb.conf>.

[global]
load printers = yes
printcap = /etc/printcap

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/samba
browseable = no
public = yes
guest ok = yes
writable = no
printable = yes

Any ideas?
