Linux/Apache/Proxy help

I have been running Linux as my desktop for about a year now and I am
ready to move a bit further. We currently run NT4.0/IIS4.0 as our web
server with
Proxy2.0 so that our LAN users can browse the web, SSL/HTTPS is a
necessity for some of our applications. We have an NT4.0 server running
Exchange5.5 for email that binds to the proxy so that it can
send/receive Internet email for our domain. The machine that runs our
proxy/web is very unstable. I have been unable to find a fix for the
proxy software that allows it to stay up for more than 12-16 hours at a
time. The machine has been reinstalled 4 times now and had the majority
of it's hardware swapped to no effect. All the info I have found has
been quite useless and MS tech support is at a loss as to the cause,
their suggestion was Tweak UI and some form of script to reboot the
machine every 8 hours. Unacceptable.

A quick search on FreshMeat came up with a plethora of proxy type apps
and utilities that sounded reasonable for our situation. My question
is, anyone here
know of a well tested reliable solution for the above situation that
would allow me to slip a linux box in to my network rack?

Thanks in advance,
