The term for this is "Bulverism". If you don't want too deal with the
points of someone's positions argument (or don't have the intellectual
fortitude to be able to), you attack their personal credibility. Say
someone smoked a joint 50 years ago, looked at porn once in there life,
or likes violent movies, whatever, and thus can't possibly have
anything legitimate to say about the ramification of corporate globalism
upon economic inequity (for example). This tactic is nothing new, and
I don't see what specifically brings "the democrats" to mind then I go
looking for example.
