Not the mainboard/chipset AFAIK.

But AMD has been "locking" newer Athlon XPs so they will NOT function if
used for dual-processorr. Or maybe they don't work with the AMD760MP[X]
(AMD762 northbridge) chipset at all??? If AMD is now locking newer
Durons out as well, by not working on an AMD762 northbridge mainboard,
that might explain why a single CPU wouldn't work either.

It could also be that your power supply is inadequate. What are you
using? What are the _exact_specifications_ of +3.3, +5 and +12V? Many
times, I've single Duron/Athlons _fail_ to power-up as a result of an
inadequate power supply -- including _many_ 300Ws!

My Antec 400W with a whopping 245W on the 3.3+5V was NOT SUFFICIENT
ENOUGH, especially when the system "warmed up" (and the increased heat
reduces the output of the PS -- which is typical). I had to move to a
Enermax 435W power supply with increased +12V output.

See if you can get a single Duron to boot with _quality_ 350W+ power
supply first. That will tell a lot.

Dual Athlon/Duron means lots of power required. Those specialized power
supplies for the Tyan Thunder K7 don't exist for no reason and just
because the commodity Tyan Tiger MP allows you to use a regular ATX 2.0x
power supply, doesn't mean it needs any less.
