[KLUG Hardware] IBM INtellistation.... On Board Enet question

Well, I finally got my cpu fans... 256MB ECC memory and have a really nice
rockin Dual PII-450 w/ 384MB of ECC ram installed.... For those who have never
used REAL IBM hardware..... It's been a learning experience....

First problem... NO CD-ROM... What? It shipped with one.... Turns out the
IDE cable in the machine was either someones reject or they NEVER used the
CD-ROM drive because the cable was bad... IBM decides if it can't discover
devices on the IDE bus it disables the bus and relelases the IRQ to something
else... Thus I kept getting a "No IDE ports enabled (BIOS)" message when I
booted into Linux. By total chance I had pulled the cable and tossed it on the
desk late at night and went to bed and "Happen" to notice the kink in the
cable the next morning... Sure enough a $1.50 cable saves the weekend! :-)

   Now for my question...

When I "service netwrok restart" then Ethernet port on my IBM
Intellistation "Turns Off" and will not turn back on until I physically turn
off the computer and turn it back on. A really annoying problem. I have my
cable modem connected to the on board enet connection and the expansion Enet
card for my home network.

Is there anything I can set to tell the computer *NOT* to turn off the Enet
on the board?

What do I mean by turn off?

When I stop the network services (service network stop (or restart)) the
pc link light on the cable modem goes out. It does not come back on unless I
reboot the computer AFTER a power off.

Any help is greatly appreciated.... I've still got a lot of configuration
to go on it but I like it when a 4-5 minute compile now takes 40 seconds!

   Thanks!

    Goose
