>>>>So you may be meeting a 1415-S173 on Tuesday.
>>>>I'll just have to work out a solution for the lack of a serial port.
>>>Please keep me posted on your serial port solution!
>>>I'm going to return the Dell work bought for me because I don't like the
>>>14" screen (coming from a 15"), and the heat it produces is so hot I can
>>>feel it coming up through the keyboard as I type.
>>Yeah, the 15"in screen is just like a standard 17in monitor, couldn't
>>see living with anything smaller.
>I didn't think a 14" would make that much difference.
>Boy was I wrong! I'll never make that mistake again.
>>>Although I may end up with a 1415-S173 myself too. Not sure yet . . .
>>I couldn't fint a -S145 which was listed for really cheap several
>>places.
>>I just arrived home with a 1135-S155, it is installing RH9 now. No
>>problems so far.
>Please keep me posted on how it runs with RH9. I still need
>to buy something to replace the Dell that's going back.
Video - works, no fuss (AGP, Intel i810)
* Holy cow! Bright, beautiful, and really bright.
Sound - works, no fuss (82801DB AC'97*)
* Eh? Whats that? Oh, well, it works. Sounds awesome!
Ethernet - works, no fuss (RealTek RTL8139)
I installed of the CD drive so that works. Haven't tested the USB bus
but it is registered happily and loaded the ehci module.
>>The 1135-S155 specs out like -
>>2.0 Ghz Celery
>>40MB ATAPI HDD
>>512Mb of DDR SDRAM
>Nice!
For $1,099! Heck yea thats "Nice!"
When the fan first kicks on it is a little loud, but it seems to kick
right back off. It has been on for six hours now and the bottom is only
"warm".
The display hinge seems really solid just like several people mentioned
in reviews and it feels really robust. The keyboard is tactile rather
than mushy.
This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
>>15" TFT XGA display
>What chipset? Nvidia, ...?
i810, don't really know much about it.
>>CDC/CD-RW combo
>What's a "CDC"? You mean "DVD/"?
Yes.
>> Integrated 10/100Mbps ethernet
>Intel Chipset?
Nope.
>>No floppy and no serial port, but it does have TV out with is reported
>>by google to actually work with Linux.
>Cool. I've used USB floppies under Linux, if you ever need one.
>>Since the DVD/CD-RW is fixed it can't be swapped out for a second
>>battery.
>No biggie, for me.
>Maybe I'll pick up one of those puppies for myself . . .
So far I'd give it a solid recommendation.
Currently working on tweaking the ATAPI subsystem which looks like it
defaulted to "least common denominator" settings.
