I use it all day as my primary workstation, so I don't think once is too
bad.  It happened right after logging in and launching IBM Server Studio
JE (a *MAMMOTH* Java application).  One of the bugs filed against the
1.4.1 beta of the jvm for Linux is that it can crash X on certain
glibcs.  So I'm not certain I even blame the laptop.

Nope, don't have any of those.

A bug prevents you from even enabling DMA via the hdparm option on this
chipset.  Again, this may be the kernel bug, or the laptop,  only time
will tell.
