Yep.  They moved away from that modular architecture with all later models.
Everything seems to go that way.  Great hardware at first with lots of
possibilities (from Xbox to Access Points) and then they make them cheaper and
(sometimes intentionally) more difficult to modify.

I haven't run any G on my notebooks, but I have not heard anything different
from the community.

There was actually a bit of dialogue about this on the Orlando LUG (LEAP) where
Bryan Smith (and others) contributed some insight as to why there was a lag in
getting support.
