[Novices] downloaded firefox

You are posting with Ximian Evolution 1.4.6 so I assume you are using
gnome as a desktop environment.  Unfortunately I know very little
about gnome or kde for that matter.  The install instructions in the
following link would be preformed in terminal window.

When you say "clicked on it" where were you, desktop, file manager,
terminal window, or where?

If you still cannot get it installed post back with all of the
information you can think of, like:
Which linux distribution are you using
Which desktop environment
Which Firefox 1.0
   firefox-1.0.installer.tar.gz or
   firefox-1.0.tar.gz
How much or little experience you have with linux
And anything else you think might be helpful for someone to understand
your situation.
