I'm not surprised.  It's been a long time since I looked at kmail.

Emacs sucks!  VI rules!!!  ;-)

Since this is the "novices" list, let me say to all newbies to forget
this VI/emacs conversation.  Both are high-end editors, and both have
_considerable_ learning curves.  IMO, most newbies should stick with
their GUI email editor and spend their time spent learning in other
areas of Linux (until they become more comfortable with Linux anyway).
Then they should learn VI and forget about Emacs.   ;->
