[Novices] Kinternet problem

Running Suse 9.1 and KDE desktop.
I went ahead and did the unthinkable and configured my Winmodem on this 
computer.  Lo and behold, it worked.  It worked too well.  Now I can't stop 
it from polling my email server for emails all the time and so I can't 
actually receive my mail.  Both the web based and K-mail inbox show empty.   
Apparently the program that starts up with the configuring of the e-mail 
portion is called Kinternet.  I have no idea what the program does with them.  
I currently have changed the SMTP and POP server addresses to nonsense so the 
program can't find the server, but there must be a better way to control this 
program other than feed it garbage.  Any help?
