Paper money, or coins?

I suppose a floppy drive is a pretty good hiding place for money, 
since [almost] nobody uses floppies any more.

Back to the original question.  Did you try more than one floppy?
It's also possible that the media is unreadable or unformatted.

You also didn't mention if the drive access light comes on and
the heads move while trying to read the floppy.

The real solution is to forget floppies and use USB flash drives.
They are faster, more reliable, smaller, and cheaper per MB cost.
I've seen 16MB USB drives for as low as $5.
