Good possibility.
Or your device files could be screwed up. Or maybe it's turned off in
the BIOS. You could check 'dmesg' to see if Linux finds the drive when
it boots up. Mine has messages like:
Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M
FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077
I'd check for loose cables first.
