[Novices] BestPractice: How to share email accounts between computers.

SSH and VNC works for me. That way I don't have email on two
computers. I can read, reply, and send email from any computer.

Put ssh and VNC client on the laptop, have sshd and vnc server running
on the desktop at home. Set up your firewall to port-forward incoming
connections on some odd port to port 22 on the desktop. Then, when away
from home, just set up ssh to "phone home" and tunnel through the odd
port to connect to your desktop. Fire up VNC and you're home away from
home.

Remember, you'll need to know your home IP address (of the firewall) or
set up a dynamic IP service if the IP address changes.

Best of all, this setup requires no configuration changes on the email
server or client, and can enable a slew of other services for you as
well.

I took a quick look for the link to the meeting notes for a presentation
on this (8/20/05), but the link isn't there. Let me know if you want it
and I'll send it to you.

kind regards,

bill
