[Novices] some web images (like google maps) won't load in Firefox

1.0.4 is the latest Firefox version on Debian stable to the best of my
knowledge, 1.0.7 is the latest Firefox version on Ubuntu 5.10, and
1.5.xx is the latest version of Firefox from Mozilla.

I really don't think the Firefox version has anything to do with the web
images problem -- filtering proxy settings, specific browser settings,
etc., and even malformed image files are the more likely cause.

Who started this anyway, and is your problem fixed?
