[Novices] Ubuntu/Gnome/dialer

ok, i'm finally back from goshen. my modem was indeed detected (but not 
configured) and is listed in the system>administration>networking. i 
have two items in there, my wifi card and the modem. it looks like this 
is the "dialer". i am able to configure this and then "activate" it to 
dial. i remember that this was a method of doing it in my red hat 9.0 
days. however, back then i used something differently. perhaps kppp.
