[Novices] Remote control

I just loaded kubuntu 6.06 on a computer - call it 55.
I down loaded some vnc free software for my xp box.

I was able to get the control to work only after I had signed on to the 55 using its keyboard & monitor.
I want to be able to remove the extra monitor & keyboard and actually sign on to 55 after a fresh reboot.

Any ideas -
