Do we have any Python hackers who would feel comfortable giving an introduction
to Python?  BIE now has a Jython plugin so route actions can be 'scriplets' for
those wierd things,  but I've never had the chance to dialin on Python (some
things there seem strange), and I've got my hands full with C# (or actually
GTK#).

Jython is just a Python implementation that runs in a JVM.
