I've waited a while to reply to this thread because I wanted to let my
thoughts coalesce.  

I applaud your efforts on this front.  I was going to comment on
something's mentioned earlier but they are really small technical
details which I think can best be handled when they actually come up.
So, after much thought, I think you have the user's big picture very
much in view.

The only thing I could add would be for something "hand's on".  I know
the club doesn't have many machine's itself but could we borrow a lab at
one of the colleges in the area for a "hands-on" walk through of Linux?
