I think a simple lapel mic would be fine for a KLUG meeting recording. I
recommend wireless so that that speaker can move about. Take the audio
output to a line in on a laptop (NOT the mic jack) and capture the audio
to a wave file. That file can then be edited with an intro and outtro
and posted as a podcast. For the sake of the listener, the speaker would
need to repeat any question asked by the audience before answering it.
The raw wave file of the preso could then be converted to mp3 or ogg
before uploading to a server for the podcast editor to retrieve. (Makes
for a much smaller file.) Unless the podcast editor happens to be
present at the meeting. :) I volunteer to be the podcast editor if this
ever comes to fruition.
I'm a real knob when it comes to quality...I can't tolerate bad audio.
Even with good content, I will toast a show if the audio quality is bad.
If this is to be a sustainable thing, I do recommend that KLUG
eventually purchase a wireless lapel mic and possibly a USB audio
interface. I'd have to check the price of the mic, but a USB audio
interface can be picked up for between $100-$150.
As it happens, I have next Tuesday evening open and was hoping to head
to the tryouts. I don't know that I'll be actually trying out, but
observing such an event sounds like fun. :) The next Tuesday I could
make it there is 10/11, which could be an opportunity to capture Dirk to
audio and create a prototype podcast. My other Tuesdays are booked with
church commitments.
